The Church

The church that the Lord Jesus established had it's beginnings in about 33 A.D. shortly after Jesus spoke the words, "upon this rock I will build my church" (Matthew 16:18).

The only authority the church would ever have would be the Lord, because He is the head of the church (Col. 1:18, 24).

After Jesus died to purchase the church with His shed blood (Acts 20:28), and ascended to the Father in heaven, the apostles began to preach the terms of admittance into the church. When people asked what they should do to be forgiven of sin and added to the church, they were told, "repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ, for the remission of sins...” (Acts 2:38).

The Bible then records that about three thousand were added to the church by the Lord after obedience to these commands. The Bible teaches that the promise still exists for any and all to be a part of the Lord’s church today. The text says, "…the Lord added to the church daily, those that were being saved" (Acts 2:47).

The church is not a building, but is a group of people who have been obedient to a calling to leave sin and serve the Lord. Those who are a part of the Lord’s church will continue steadfastly in the teachings of the Bible for the New Testament church (Acts 2:42; I Thessalonians 2:14).

In the New Testament we read of many congregations in different localities (Acts 8:1; 11:22; Rom. 16:1, 5 etc.) that belonged to the Lord, Jesus Christ (Romans 16:16). We call ourselves Christians and we are a church of Christ. We do not wear these names as a denominational classification, but completely out of respect and honor for Jesus, who is the builder and head of the church.

The Bible teaches there is one body (Ephesians 4:4), and every congregation, although independent to be faithful to the will of God, are united as a universal body of the saved, in Christ.

Those who are saved are called Christians (Acts 11:26), and were restricted from wearing any other name (I Corinthians 1:10ff).

There were no counsels or synods or even city wide organizations to plan and do the work of the church other than the local congregation itself. Every church was responsible to be active and function according to the directives of God’s word (See the churches in Revelation 1-3 for more examples).

The importance of being a part of the Lord's church, is that Jesus is the "Savior of the body" which is His church (Ephesians 5:23; Colossians 1:24). Those who are a part of the church and are contending for the one faith of the gospel (Jude 3) can look forward to salvation in an eternal home with the Lord (Hebrews 5:8-9), while those outside of the church will be eternally separated from God and lost,  while suffering the consequences of their sins.  Come and be a part of the church belonging to Jesus as you respond in obedience to the will of God for your life.

Establishment (Our History)

The church in Chillicothe is a newly planted church that is truly striving to be the church that Jesus established almost 2000 years ago. Our plea is not to accept denominational thought, but to "all be one" in non-denominational unity just as Jesus prayed (John 17:17-21).

We are simply reading and applying the teachings of the word of God, that we can be sure to put away all man made doctrines (Matthew 15:9) and creeds, obeying the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ. We want to have Bible authority for all that is said and done in our service to the Lord (Tit 2:1; 1 Corinthians 4:6; 2 John 9; Galatians 1:8-9; I Peter 4:11). We are a congregation of Christians that serve the Lord by sharing the gospel of Jesus Christ. We call it “serving Jesus by sharing Jesus”. We want to share the Lord and His message of good news with you.

This local church has been blessed with several donations made by some generous brothers and sisters in Christ. These gifts have enabled the congregation here to move forward in the purchase of a 1 1/2 acre piece of land  that is on US Route 50 (Western Ave.) behind North South Produce at 2004 Western Avenue. We were also blessed enough to be able to build a facility on the lot where we currently meet. Praise God and thank you to all who support our efforts to spread the gospel in Chillicothe.

Below are some images that we have taken of the property when we first purchased it.

Entering the driveway, you can see the old tree farm

Near the back of the property line, there is a lane

The left edge of the property shows our distance from Route 50

Looking down the lane exiting toward Route 50

North Fork Creek runs along the backside of the property

Standing in the middle of the land, you can see the rows of trees

Below you can see how we prepared the land for the building. There were 900 tons of dirt hauled in to elevate the land to the necessary height. This project went forward and the progress can be seen in the images. Thank you for your individual contributions in making this work possible.

The builders began construction and worked hard to get our structure completed.

The poles went in well and the rest of the work was done rather quickly in completing the rest of the external shell and the frame work.

The roof was attached and we were ready to pour some concrete inside before the metal siding was put on the exterior.

The final touches were ready to be put on once the concrete was dry.

Once the siding started going up, the outside was covered quickly.

Next we went to work on the inside on the framing and insulation.

We were ready for insulation and had help from many brethren in Hueytown and out own congregation.

At this time the drywall is being hung and should be completed by the end of April 2009.

We want to thank God for the blessings He is richly bestowing upon us. We want to thank all of you who are serving as instruments that God is using to assist us in this journey of establishing and building up this local church in Chillicothe. God bless you all for your faithfulness.

Below are some of the most recent images as we are now meeting in our new facility. Come and meet with us.

Above is our auditorium that has a maximum capacity of 315 people. We pray you will come grow with us.

Several of our members are joined in song as we opened our facility for a gospel singing.

We have classes for all ages and welcome you and your family to come out and study God's word with us.

Both of our evangelists have their own offices for study and personal meetings with others. Feel free to contact them anytime.

All glory to God who provides and sustains us. We are so grateful to all who support and encourage us in the Lord. Check back periodically for future images on this page.
